The Role

This role provides an excellent opportunity to work very closely with key stakeholders in the practice, Law School provider and Learning and Development colleagues to develop the quality of the firm's trainees.

This position requires significant understanding of the trainee development process at all levels and a good understand of employment and immigration law. This role will work closely with the Trainee Development Manager on the following projects:
  • Organising the trainee induction programme (twice a year)
  • Participating in regular review meetings with trainees to discuss their performance and provide guidance
  • Assisting with the qualification process for trainees (twice a year)
  • Liaising with immigration lawyers to obtain work permits for trainee solicitors
  • Liaising with international offices to discuss secondments (incoming and outgoing)
  • Co-ordination of the trainee seat allocation process, including international and client secondments (twice a year)
  • Liaise with Law School providers
  • Organising pre-LPC training and 'keeping in touch' days for future trainee solicitors (includes working closely with the Learning and Development team)
  • Attending Trainee Forum meetings
  • Overseeing the trainee appraisal process - includes training for supervisors and trainees
  • Liaising with the Solicitors' Regulation Authority as required
  • Attending social events for future and current trainees (includes evening work)
  • Management responsibility for the Trainee Development Assistant.

Skills and Experience Required

The Trainee Development team environment is busy, friendly and supportive, and we are looking for someone who wants to build on their previous experience.
  • Previous experience of trainee development and HR
  • Ideally previous legal partnership experience
  • Ability to engage and gain credibility with senior stakeholders
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise work load effectively
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A positive and proactive attitude
  • Resilience with the confidence to deliver presentations and difficult messages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A team player and leader
